Sage Fanucchi-Funes

Sage grew up on the Lost Coast of Northern California. Growing up in a rural community, she was surrounded by families who chose to give birth at home which inspired her to one day become a midwife.

She has been involved in reproductive health care since becoming a peer educator at Planned Parenthood when she was 16-years-old. She completed her undergraduate studies at Brown University where she majored in Gender and Sexuality Studies with a focus on racial inequity in maternity care. She then worked as a full-spectrum doula supporting families through birth and postpartum before returning to school. She earned her Bachelors of Nursing and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon.

Prior to joining Millie, she worked in Humboldt County at the only Labor and Delivery unit in a two-hour radius. Working where she grew up, she had the privilege of serving the community who helped raise her. She learned the importance of resourcefulness in settings with limited access and the unique challenges families face in rural settings.

She is passionate about reproductive justice and believes that all families deserve equitable access to evidence-based and patient-centered care. She is a life-long learner and feels honored to learn and build relationships with patients every day.

When she is not working, she loves to sing and dance with friends and family, go agate hunting with her dog, and soak in hot springs.
